INSPIRING NEWS WRITING WORKSHOPS FOR SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES

News writing workshops designed to raise aspirations and inspire confidence

A fun and effective way of engaging students who are demotivated and struggle with English

“Our Year 7’s had a great time gaining an insight into the world of journalism. Sally brought a sense of fun to her workshop and our students were hanging on her every word! Her session on interviewing was a particular highlight – the students loved being a roving reporter, looking for the scoop!! We have now been inspired to make our own school newspaper and can’t wait to show our first copy to Sally!”

Chris Kelly, Deputy Head of Year 7, Trent College, Nottingham

REPORTING THE NEWS ACCURATELY

Our primary workshops for schools and secondary workshops for schools change students’ thinking and perceptive. This means they will look at the news in a new and enlightened way and think about writing and communication in a different way.

Furthermore, understanding the implications of writing for a newspaper or digital news website makes them see the importance and responsibility that comes from writing for a mass audience.

Our professional staff are committed to giving schools utmost value and an effective journalism workshop giving results they didn’t expect!

MEET NATIONAL CURRICULUM GOALS

We are passionate about delivering our bespoke news writing workshops which can be tailored to the many different goals and targets teaching staff need to meet.

Our staff will liaise with teaching staff beforehand to make sure the best outcome is achieved from the workshop.

Students learn the process involved in writing a news article – from finding a story, to accurately reporting it to a wide audience of readers.

During the workshop, our tutor will tell the students how she started off as a journalist as well as recounting interesting anecdotes about her time on newspapers. From the drama of reporting on murder cases, to the more humorous, quirky and sometimes sad stories, the life of a news reporter is never dull.

Journalism for Schools brings the reality of reporting on the news to the classroom. Students get a hands-on experience and the chance to find out more about journalism as a career.

A full-day or half-day school workshop is fun, educational and confidence-building.

Suitable for Primary, Secondary, Further Education and international students.
